Bookworms have the biggest banquet in store in Kraków and the surrounding Małopolska region, in part thanks to the former's recently acquired status as a UNESCO City of Literature.

Malopolska's 'Book and Rose' event seeks to encourage locals to read more literature, and at over 60 bookshops across the region, customers on Thursday and Friday will receive a ten percent discount on books purchased, together with a complimentary rose.

Meanwhile, talks with writers and translators are being held, and there will be a 'Krakow Thursday of Crime Thrillers' at the newly opened Małopolska Garden of Arts, during which a local police officer will co-create with attendees a 'Małopolska Map of Crime.'

Owing to the proximity to the weekend, some meetings and events across Poland are being held on Saturday and Sunday.

The eKulturalni.pl portal is organising an event that takes in 8 cities (Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Łódż, Poznań, Szczecin, Warsaw and Wrocław). Books will be hidden in unlikely places, and participants who unravel clues can keep the tomes that they manage to find. (nh)
