Polish architectural firm Projekt Praga has been honoured with a special commendation in the international competition to design a branch of the Guggenheim Museum in Helsinki.

Some 1715 submissions from 77 countries were made for the prestigious commission, and the overall winner will be announced on 23 June.

Although Projekt Praga did not make it into the pool of six finalists, the Polish firm was one of 15 studios to win a special commendation.

The City of Helsinki has earmarked an extensive waterfront plot for the building, calling on architects to create an “outstanding, engaging, original design, with a potential to become a landmark and a symbol of Helsinki.” (nh)
