Laskowski's ‘The tiger left me unsatisfied’ is scored for bass clarinet, violin, percussion and Hammond organ.

It was submitted for the competition by Polish Radio’s culture-and-arts channel Radio Two.

Fifty-five pieces by composers from 29 countries were submitted by radio networks, including 14 by composers under 30.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mikołaj Laskowski is a graduate of the Music Academy in Wrocław and is currently continuing his studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In addition to Poland, his works have already been performed in Germany, Italy and Holland.

Last year ‘Canzon de’ baci’ by Polish composer Andrzej Kwieciński was selected as the work most worthy for worldwide broadcasting in the ‘young composers’ category at the 61st Rostrum in Helsinki, and two years ago ‘Not I’ by Poland’s Agata Zubel was the ‘selected work’ in the ‘general category’ at the same event, held in Prague. Next year, the International Composers’ Rostrum will be held in Wrocław, the 2016 European Capital of Culture. (mk/nh)
