Polański film poster show hosted in Kraków

An exhibition drawing together over 200 Roman Polański film posters from over 30 countries opens in Kraków this week at the city's art nouveau Palace of Art.

The show has been prepared by the Film Museum in Łódź, and it follows on from poster exhibitions devoted to Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Kieślowski.
“We can confidently say that we have the world's largest collection of posters by Roman Polański,” curator Krystyna Zamysłowska told the Polish Press Agency.
Posters from such diverse destinations as Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Israel, Australia, the USA, Mexico and France are all included, with examples by celebrated designers such as Rene Ferracci, Jean Michel Folon, Clement Hurel, Bernard Bernhardt and Peter Strausfeld.
Likewise, 30 posters by Poland have also been selected, including works by Jan Lenica, one of the founders of the so-called Polish Poster School, which emerged in the 1950s.
Polański, who was born to secular Polish-Jewish parents, spent much of his youth in Kraków. During World War II he escaped from the Jewish ghetto that the Nazi German occupiers created in the city.
A Kraków court is currently deliberating on whether it can extradite the director to the US, following a request from American authorities. The matter relates to a 1977 case involving sexual intercourse with a minor.
Meanwhile, Polański aims to shoot his next movie in Poland, beginning this year. The project is an adaptation of Robert Harris's thriller 'An Officer and a Spy', which explores the Dreyfus Affair, a notorious miscarriage of justice in pre- World War I France.
The exhibition opens on 16 July. It will also be shown during the Gdynia Film Festival, which begins on 14 September. (nh)
