The movie will be directed by Kasia Adamek ('The Offsiders', 'Janosik') daughter of Agnieszka Holland ('In Darkness'), and shooting is scheduled to begin in Wrocław, south west Poland, in October.

The case of killer Krystian B. (surname withheld under Polish privacy laws) was one of the most publicised in Poland since the collapse of communism in 1989.

In December 2000, the body of a Wrocław businessman was discovered by fishermen in the River Odra.

The victim had a noose around his neck and his hands were tied with cord.

Police were unable to find promising leads, and the investigation was eventually suspended.

However, in 2003, Krystian B. published his debut novel 'Amok', in which a murder victim suffers a similar fate.

Two years later an anonymous tip-off about the similarities between the book and the actual murder prompted police to reopen the investigation.

It emerged that Krystian. B had suspected the Wrocław businessman of having a relationship with his ex-wife.

He was ultimately convicted of the murder in September 2007.

What really hooked me in this story is the duel between Krystian B., who is an unusual, intelligent, charismatic man, and a policeman who gradually enters his world and becomes obsessed with Krystian and the book,” director Adamik told the Gazeta Wyborcza daily. (nh/rk)
