Hotshot Polish director Palkowski working on crime serial 'The Teacher'

The director, who provided Poland's biggest box office success of 2014 with black comedy 'Gods', is dishing up a 'whodunit' detective intrigue, set in a provincial Polish town.

According to press materials, “the death of a young girl shocks a local community,” and her demise coincides with the appearance of teacher Paweł Zawadzki, played by Maciej Stuhr ('Manhunt', 'The Eccentrics', 'Aftermath').

“Why has a teacher from a reputable school in Warsaw taken a job in the country?”

Zawadzki launches his own investigation into the girl's disappearance, but finds that locals are not queuing up to divulge their knowledge.

Director Palkowski has revealed that even members of the crew have been kept in the dark about certain plot developments, and that the last episode will be a head-swiveller.

“I guarantee that the ending will come as a shock,” he said. “For everyone.”

Palkowski said that keeping the actors themselves uninformed meant that they were more intrigued by the storyline on set.

Besides Stuhr, the series will feature Magdalena Cielecka ('Venice'), Józef Pawlowski ('City 44', 'Jack Strong') and Piotr Głowacki ('In Darkness', 'The Suicide Room').

'The Teacher' is due to start airing in October 2016. (nh/rk)
