Other award-winners honored at the opening ceremony held at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood on Wednesday include Karolina Bielawska's documentary Call Me Marianna, Andrzej Cichocki's short The Shadow Forest and Joanna Jasińska-Korosińska It's Quite True.

Also, Andy Garcia (The Godfather: Part III, When a Man Loves a Woman) won the Pola Negri award for his role in Raymond De Felitte's City Island, a US production co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and featuring music by Academy Award winner Jan Kaczmarek (Finding Neverland).

Like each year, the Pola Negri award is granted to "great foreign filmmakers, who have contributed to promoting Poland in the world through their work," as festival director Vladek Juszkiewicz explained in the festival's press release.

The Polish Film Festival, which is to feature the screenings of over 60 productions, including feature films, documentaries, shorts and animations from Poland, is held under the honorary patronage of the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska.

The event runs until 22 October. (aba/rk)
