Directorial duties are being handled by Alexandros Avranas, whose 2013 movie 'Miss Violence' won the Silver Lion at the 70th Venice Film Festival, while the script has been written by Jeremy Brock ('Brideshead Revisited', 'The Last King of Scotland').

I'm proud that we were able bring over such a big, international production as 'True Crimes',commented Izabela Helbin, director of the Kraków Festival Office.

Besides Carrey, the cast includes Marton Csokas ('The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King', 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2') and Charlotte Gainsbourg ('Nymphomaniac').

Leading Polish actors Robert Więckiewicz ('Walęsa: Man of Hope) and Agata Kulesza ('Ida') are also onboard, as is Polish cinematographer Michał Englert ('Body', 'In the Name of').

'True Crimes' was inspired by a murder commited in 2000 which went unsolved for many years.

However, the culprit wrote a crime fiction novel that bore many parallels with the murder he had committed.

A tip-off led to the investigation being reopened, and the murderer's ultimate conviction in 2007. (nh)
