The programme is slanted towards compositions connected with the yuletide period, with performances by ensembles from across Europe.

“Just two years ago we were thinking in terms of aspirations and now the Actus Humanus Festival has elevated Gdańsk to the status of a premier festival centre,” commented the festival's artistic director.

The event will opened with a performance by celebrated Italian violinist Giuliano Carmignola, together with the Accademia Bizantina.

Other performers include Les Arts Florissants, who specialise in French Baroque music, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and Les Talents Lyriques.

The festival runs until 13 February, and the full programme can be found here. (nh)
