The biennial award is awarded to a volume of poetry translated into Polish that “ has described freedom as understood in personal, political or religious terms, or as the right to intellectual, emotional and sensual expression in the most original way.”

The prize will be given on 19 March as part of the International European Poet of Freedom Festival.

This year's nominees are Vanni Bianconi from Italy, Anna Blandiana from Romania, Lidija Dimkovska from Macedonia, Yahya Hassan from Denmark, Daniel Jonas from Portugal, Anikó Polgár from Hungary and Sergei Stratanovski fom Russia.

The collections of poems were translated by Joanna Wajs, Joanna Kornaś-Warwas, Danuta Cirlić-Straszyńska, Bogusława Sochańska, Michał Lipszyc, Anna Górecka and Adam Pomorski.

The International European Poet of Freedom Festival was launched in 2010, and it is organised by the City of Gdańsk, together with the Municipal Cultural Centre. (nh/pk)
