While establishing a relationship, 84 percent of Poles did not care whether their partner owed money, and only one in seven was interested in their partner’s financial situation, according to the study by Millward Brown for Poland’s National Debt Register.

The survey also found that only person in 18 has ever had to pay off the debts of a former spouse or partner. Of these, 68 percent were women.

Such debts were most often cash loans from banks and lending institutions, mortgages and loans from family and friends. (pk)
