A musical about the life of Polish pontiff John Paul II, “Karol”, is the making, with the premiere expected next year.

Musician brothers Piotr and Wojciech Cugowski will play friends of John Paul II in the musical dedicated to the pope, who was born in 1920 in Wadowice, southern Poland.
The tickets for the musical are already on sale, even though the production will not premiere until 25 February, 2017.
It is as yet unclear who will play the title role in “Karol”, a reference to the birth name of the pope: Karol Wojtyła.
Pope John Paul II headed the Catholic Church for almost three decades until his death in 2005. He is widely considered one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. (rg/pk)
