The report has been produced by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the Earth Institute at Columbia University in the US. Its goal is to describe how measurements of well-being can be used effectively to assess the progress of nations.

Factors taken into consideration by experts include per capita gross domestic product, the level of corruption in a country and healthy years of life expectancy.

The Top 10 on the list are Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden.

Poland is behind the Czech Republic (in 27th place), Slovakia (45th) and Uzbekistan (47th) but ahead of Lithuania (60th), Belarus (61st), Latvia (68th), Romania (71st) and Hungary (91st). (mk/pk)
