The actor told Polish Radio that he shed several pounds in order to play the maverick director, and that he continued his workouts during the filming of the movie.

Szyc said the film aims “to present the contradictions of his spirit and character as much as is possible.”

Kantor, who died in 1990, won international acclaim for his innovative approach to drama, becoming the toast of festivals around the globe.

We make use of signs and symbols which appeared very distinctively in his performances, like chairs and umbrellas,” Szyc revealed.

The film, which was directed by Jan Hryniak, is due to be released later this year. (nh/pk)
