Michał Tęcza from Zwoleń, near Radom in central Poland, told the Catholic Information Agency that he arrived at Gniezno very exhausted. On the last stretch of the walk he was joined by his wife and daughter.

An organist by profession, he works in the parish of Janowiec-on-the-Vistula, some 24 km from home, and sometimes goes to work, one way, on foot. He took up long-distance walking three years ago.

Last year he covered 3,000 km. In preparation for his latest exploit, he covered 90 km in a single day. (mk/rg)
