A beach to open in the heart of Warsaw

Preparations are underway to create a beach at the foot of Warsaw’s Palace of Culture.

Some 1,000 tons of sand will be spread out over the northeastern section of the Defilad Square for Warsaw citizens to enjoy throughout the summer.
The entire recreational complex is to include beach soccer and beach volleyball fields alongside two badminton courts.
The sports area will be covered with the thickest layer of sand, measuring 40 centimeters. Sports buffs will have access to basic amenities such as changing rooms and showers. Mobile floodlighting units will also allow for evening matches.
Organized by the city hall, the urban beach complex is to open early June and run until mid-September. (aba)
