Now in its 16th year, the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra is continuing a tradition started by the founder of the ensemble, Franciszek Wybrańczyk.

“We seek to keep his idea alive, bringing classical music closer to people and staging concerts in places where you don’t usually hear it,” says the orchestra’s artistic director, Janusz Marynowski.

Music aficionados will have the opportunity to listen to works by Mozart, Rossini and Penderecki.

The festival started at Warsaw’s Sowiński Park on Saturday, with the orchestra accompanied by jazz musician Leszek Możdżer, performing under the baton of Jerzy Maksymiuk.

The festival winds up next weekend in Warsaw’s Praga district, where the orchestra is based. The programme spans from Spanish music on Saturday to operettas on Sunday.
