Social media are a source of news for 58 percent of Polish internet users, according to the Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report 2016, with 13 percent using such outlets as their main news source.

Facebook is the most popular network – half of Polish internet users turn to it for news, including 54 percent of such Poles aged under 35.

YouTube is in second place, used as a news source by 31 percent of all Polish internet users, including 35 percent aged under 35.

Both Twitter and Google+ are news sources for 9 percent of Polish internet users, but for under-35s the figures are lower: only 6 and 4 percent respectively.

One in five Polish internet users pay for news online, but the majority of payments are one-offs rather than ongoing subscriptions.

At the same time, Poles are in first place among 26 countries surveyed when it comes to ad blocking – 38 per cent of Polish internet users do so, including 56 percent aged under 35. (mol/pk)
