Some 270 items are on show, among them furniture, china and toys.

There are real "gems" to be found among the exhibits, Iza Rusiniak, from Desa Unicum, told Polish Radio's IAR news agency.

"Although back in communist times Polish design was evolving in artificial conditions, free from market demands, many remarkable projects were created at the time," Rusiniak said.

Alongside a wide array of objects of everyday use that are sure to bring back bitter-sweet memories among generations of Poles, the exhibition includes a section devoted to communist propaganda, featuring posters and banners.

The exhibition winds up with an auction on 30 June. (aba/pk)
