The Klezmer duo, formed two years ago, comprises 90-year-old Krakow-born drummer Saul Dreier, who survived three concentration camps, and 86-year-old Warsaw-born accordionist Reuwen ‘Ruby’ Sosnowicz who spent World War II hidden by a Polish farmer.

After the war, they both emigrated to the States and now live in Florida.

The idea to bring the band to Warsaw comes from the From the Depths Foundation, which protects Jewish heritage in Poland. The foundation plans to set up an educational centre in Warsaw focusing on Poland’s Righteous Among the Nations who offered assistance to Jews during World War II.

The foundation wants to encourage young people from Poland and other countries to help Polish Righteous, who in their old age have to cope with a wide range of problems. They will be special guests at the concert by the Holocaust Survivors Band, whose goal is to promote the idea of the Centre.

Foundation President Jonny Daniels told daily Rzeczpospolita that Polish Righteous are the best ambassadors of Poland. Having met and talked to any of them – nobody would dare to refer to Nazi German concentration camps on Polish territory as Polish death camps, Daniels told the paper.
