The tournament is mainly targeted at high school graduates as the winner will be awarded free admission to Warsaw-based Vistula University, the private academic institution organizing the event.

Two runners-up will be offered reduced tuition for one semester of studies at a faculty of their own choice.

Based on a popular Japanese cartoon, Pokemon Go is a game where players hunt for virtual creatures and objects set in real locations. Released earlier in July, the game has become an instant hit among Poles.

Warsaw alone has some 1,000 spots marked on the local Pokemon Go map, outpacing Berlin, Lisbon and London.

The tournament is to be held on 31 July. (aba/pk)
