Music lovers can listen to recitals by two outstanding young pianists – Charles Richard-Hamelin (second prize winner at the 2015 Chopin Competition in Warsaw) and Daniel Kharitonov (third prize winner at last year’s Tchaikovsky Competition).

The programme of the event includes performances by several other highly-acclaimed young stars, such as Seong-Jin Cho (winner of the 2015 Chopin Competition), Vadym Kholodenko (winner of the 2013 Van Cliburn Competition in Fort Worth), Anna Tsybuleva (winner of last year’s Leeds Competition) and Lukas Vondracek (winner of this year’s Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels).

The festival’s highlights include “Nocturne”, a late-night candle-lit concert by all the festival’s featured pianists.

The festival in Duszniki is the oldest music festival in Poland. Launched in 1946, it is being held for the 71st time.

It commemorates Chopin’s stay in the spa town in August 1826. The composer was 16 years old when he came to Duszniki (then called Bad Reinerz) for treatment and gave two benefit concerts for a local orphanage. He is said to have liked the town and its scenic surroundings. (mk/pk)
