Polish films on BBC ‘best of’ list

BBC Culture has ranked the 100 best films produced in the 21st century, with two Polish films making the list.

The BBC polled 177 film critics from around the globe and asked which were the best films produced since the year 2000.
The consensus was that David Lynch’s 2001 masterpiece Mulholland Drive is the greatest film made over the last 16 years.
Meanwhile, two films co-produced in Poland made the list. Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida (2013) not only won the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award in 2015, but also ranked 55th on the BBC list.
The Pianist, a 2002 historical drama by Roman Polanski showing the terrors of WWII, ranked 90th. (rg)
