A cross-section of Chinese art from the 12th up to the 19th century will be displayed until 8 January.

The exhibition focuses on a elite class in ancient Chinese society known as “scholar-officials”, their emergence, everyday life and artistic activities.

This class usually served as government officials and at the same time were much admired for their refined artistic taste.

The exhibition is a result of a team up between the Warsaw museum and the National Museum of China in Beijing.

Chinese art “fascinates the European public with masterful techniques, the exoticism of ornamentation and the secretiveness of the symbols,” said Agnieszka Morawińska, the head of the museum in Warsaw.
