Town Mayor Ryszard Nowak recently paid a visit to her convent to wish her many happy returns.

In an interview for Polish Radio the nun, a member of the order of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, said she had no single recipe for longevity -- other than to focus in life on helping others.

According to the State Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), the last decade has seen a steady growth of the number of centenarians in Poland.

There are 2,300 of them at present, 900 more than in 2007. Most of them are women. (mk/pk)
