Polish town honours its oldest citizen, aged 106

Sister Dominika, a Roman Catholic nun, has turned 106. She is the oldest citizen of Nowy Sącz, southern Poland.

Town Mayor Ryszard Nowak recently paid a visit to her convent to wish her many happy returns.
In an interview for Polish Radio the nun, a member of the order of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, said she had no single recipe for longevity -- other than to focus in life on helping others.
According to the State Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), the last decade has seen a steady growth of the number of centenarians in Poland.
There are 2,300 of them at present, 900 more than in 2007. Most of them are women. (mk/pk)
