Sinfonia Varsovia on Far Eastern tour

Sinfonia Varsovia, Poland’s leading symphony orchestra opens a tour of South Korea and China on Friday with a concert in Pusan, South Korea’s second largest city.

The programme includes Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, Chopin’s First Piano Concerto with the Polish-born Canadian soloist Jan Lisiecki and Sinfonietta per archi by the famous Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, who also appears on the conductor’s podium.

Sinfonia Varsovia will also perform at the 2,000-seat concert hall of the Seoul Arts Center and in Daegu.

While in South Korea, Penderecki will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Ulsan. From South Korea, Sinfonia Varsovia goes to China, with performances in Beijing, Wuhan, Changsha and Shanghai. (mk/rg)
