The programme of the concert, starting at 7pm, features music from their latest CD, ‘Night in Calisia’, which won the 2014 Grammy in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album category.

‘Night in Calisia’ is a suite commissioned by the Polish city of Kalisz to commemorate its 1,850th year in existence. Pawlik and Brecker are joined by Paweł Pańta (bass and bass guitar) and Patryk Dobosz (drums).

On the CD, Brecker and the Pawlik Piano Trio are accompanied by the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Adam Klocek.

Born in 1958, Włodek Pawlik is a highly versatile musician. Having started his career as a classically trained pianist, he studied jazz performance in Germany and also gained a reputation as a composer of jazz music and film soundtracks. He is the first Polish jazz musician to receive a Grammy. For Brecker, ‘Night in Calisia’ was his fifth Grammy.

The pair had earlier collaborated on the album ‘Tykocin Jazz Suite’.
