Polish director Wajda’s ‘Afterimage’ fails to make Oscar shortlist

Polish director Andrzej Wajda’s "Afterimage" has failed to make the shortlist of nine movies for next year's Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.

The Academy Awards prize giving ceremony will take place on 26 February.
Wajda, one of Poland's most famous directors, died in October at the age of 90.
“Afterimage” focuses on the life of Władysław Strzemiński (1893-1952), a pioneer of the avant-garde in Polish visual arts, an artist who refused to toe the communist party line during the Stalinist period and experienced the painful consequences of his choices.
Strzemiński is played in the film by Bogusław Linda, one of Poland’s foremost actors.
The film, scheduled for general release in January 2017, was given a warm reception at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in September.
