Traditional Polish Christmas carol with new lyrics, about Syrian families escaping from war, created by the Caritas Poland charity organisation “became a proof of solidarity with the refugees” said Caritas spokesman Paweł Kęska.

The charity's song draws parallels between a biblical story – where a pregnant Mary, far from home, finds shelter and gives birth to Jesus – and homeless refugee families in Syria and Iraq who are receiving aid from Caritas in Poland.

The song is performed by Violetta Brzezińska, and an accompanying video clip shows Syrian families in refugee camps.

Some 3,000 people regularly support 1,000 families in the Middle East under the Caritas "Family for Family” programme.
