In total, 71 people have died of hypothermia in Poland since 1 November last year.

The Government Security Centre has appealed to the public to inform the authorities if they see homeless people sleeping rough.

The centre has warned that elderly people, those living alone or sick are also at risk.

Family, Labour and Social Policy Minister Elżbieta Rafalska has appealed to Poles to step in and help if they see someone who may be in danger of freezing to death.
