The latest album from American alternative rock band The Flaming Lips was inspired by a Polish translation of Erskine Caldwell’s novel “Close to Home”.

Although Flaming Lips vocalist Wayne Coyne does not speak Polish at all, he was fascinated by the novel’s Polish 1985 translation by Kazimierz Piotrowski.

Coyne said he found the novel in an antique book store and one of the phrases he found in the book, Oczy Młody (Eyes of the Young), became the title of the new album.

The band’s frontman decided to build the whole concept of the album around the “exotic” sounding language he found in the book.

The album includes songs called Nigdy Nie (Never No), Do Głowy (Into the Head) and Blisko Domu (Almost Home).
