The survey shows that 92.8 percent of Poles aged at least 16 identify as Roman Catholic, with 1.4 percent belonging to other denominations, such as Orthodox (0.7 percent), Jehovah's Witness (0.3 percent) or Protestant (0.2 percent).

Less than 0.1 percent of people living in Poland identify with non-Christian religions, while 3.1 percent do not identify with a religious group at all.

Meanwhile, some 70 percent of Poles described themselves as “believers”, the poll showed, and a further 10 percent said they “deeply believed”.

But less than half of those surveyed said they participated in religious practice, such as attending Catholic Mass, at least weekly, and about 35 percent said they prayed daily.

About one in five Poles attend religious services once or twice a month, while another one in five only attend for religious celebrations such as Christmas and Easter. (vb/pk)
