On show are pieces from two private collections of household items that show Central European modern design from the period after the Krushchev Thaw of 1956, when communist-era oppression and censorship were relaxed.
The period saw Polish furniture design exported to countries both within the eastern bloc and to the west. Polish designs were also manufactured for Swedish multinational furniture store IKEA.
The pieces on show in Madrid come from the collections of Pole Filip Spek, an art historian who is also curating the exhibition, and Czech collector Jan Jeništa.
The Italian IED design school lent space at its Madrid campus for the exhibition which will close on May 26. (vb)
