Each Sunday until the end of September, two free piano concerts will be played at the foot of the composer's famous monument in Warsaw's Royal Łazienki Park, one at midday and the other at 4pm.

A different musician will give each performance, with a total of forty pianists billed from Poland, Lithuania, Japan, Ukraine, the UK and the United States.

The event attracted some 80,000 people last year.

The annual spring and summer concerts have been performed every year since 1959, in various formats but always at the same location next to Chopin's monument.

The monument, one of Warsaw’s most popular landmarks, was designed by Wacław Szymanowski, a renowned Polish sculptor.

Unveiled in 1926, it was destroyed during World War II. Reconstructed in the post-war years, it returned to its place in 1958. (mk/vb/pk)
