Audiences will be able to hear music from the Middle Ages to the 18th century played by soloists and ensembles from Poland and abroad, including the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria.

The artistic director of the festival, Marcin Szelest, said: "We will highlight the rich musical traditions that were evident in churches, cathedrals and at the courts of central Europe at the time.”

He added: “This is an opportunity to get to know the roots of our culture."

The festival, which is being held for the 39th time, runs until 9 July.
