In the first six months of this year rescuers were called out some 850 times, over 100 more than during the same period last year.

Jacek Dębicki, head of Poland’s Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service (GOPR), said: "In July we had 265 call-outs to tourists [in need of help], 15 percent more than in July 2016.”

He added: “These were mainly injuries, people getting lost or fainting due to hot weather.”

Holiday season is in full swing in Poland, with many tourists heading to the mountains for their vacation.
