Poland’s Central Examination Board said 84.5 percent passed the exams earlier this year, slightly down from last year’s 85 percent.

The success rate in the written exam in the Polish language was 98 percent, in mathematics the pass rate was 86 percent, and in English, the most popular foreign language among pupils, the pass rate was 95 percent.

Poland’s “matura” school leaving exams are a rite of passage and a test that determines teenagers’ future to a large degree.
