A Polish teenager has made a shortlist of three candidates for a peace award known as the children’s Nobel Prize, according to reports.

Tymon Radzik, aged 16, from Zielona Góra in western Poland, beat candidates from 55 countries to be nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize, private broadcaster Radio Zet reported.

The founder of the award, KidsRights, say the prize is awarded annually to a child who fights courageously for children’s rights.

According to KidsRights, Tymon “discovered that children in Poland had limited access to the legal system, simply because they are minors.”

It added: “Tymon took action to make it easier for children to participate in formal processes and gain information to do so. Now, Polish minors can observe and represent themselves in court.”

KidsRights describes itself as an organisation that works with children to create a world in which their rights are guaranteed and they are enabled to realise their potential.
