The total market for toys is estimated at around PLN 3 billion (EUR 700 million) a year, of which 20 percent comes from toys classified as building blocks. Meanwhile, sports toys were the second most popular category, while puzzles came third.

The development director of RMD Research, Paweł Szmidt, said: “From the start of this year to the end of November the market for toy blocks rose by 3 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2016.”

Sports toys accounted for roughly 13 percent of the market. This category includes toy scooters, kids’ swimming pools and trampolines. Puzzles accounted for just 2 percent of the Polish toy market.

RMD Research noted that many toys are now purchased online, and there are difficulties in estimating the size of that market. The Polish website Allegro alone is estimated to have a toy market worth PLN 500 million (EUR 120 million) a year.

Discussing the future of the Polish toy market, Szmidt added: “We are currently seeing… a [small] increase in the number of births. Taking into account the strengthening of the Polish zloty and the growing number of children being born, we should expect toy sales to go up in 2018.”
