Polish filmmaker tipped as director to watch

Thirty-one-year-old Polish filmmaker Marta Prus has been included on a “10 Europeans to Watch” list compiled by Variety magazine.

The magazine praised Prus’s 70-minute film Over the Limit as a “brilliant, diamond-hard portrait of Russian rhythmic gymnast Margarita Mamun’s punishing road to the 2016 Olympics.”
In her teens, Prus was a gymnast and dancer herself. Before enrolling at the famous Film School in Łódź, central Poland, at the age of 22, she studied the history of art at Warsaw University.
She also completed a course in documentary film at the Andrzej Wajda Masters’ School in Warsaw. Several of her shorts received awards at international festivals.
The 10 Europeans to Watch list includes directors and actors from Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.
