Tribute to late Polish singer-songwriter Młynarski

Thursday marks the first anniversary of the death of Wojciech Młynarski, a Polish poet, singer and songwriter.

Universally hailed as an icon of Polish culture for more than five decades, he wrote lyrics to some 2,000 songs, ranging from biting comments on Poland’s political and social realities to highly emotional, lyrical verse.
Młynarski was also the author of ingenious translations of French songs by Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Becaud and Jacques Brel, as well as of American musicals.
Młynarski died last year on March 15 at the age of 75.
The Museum of Literature in Warsaw has mounted an exhibition on Młynarski. It features some of his manuscripts, typescripts with his handwritten corrections, photographs, films and awards. There is also a replica of his study.
The exhibition also presents Młynarski in a family environment, as a son, father, grandfather and brother.
Polish Radio 3 is running a series of programmes on Młynarski throughout the day, including a live concert hosted by his son Jan, a musician and singer.
