Beczała sings the part of Rodolfo in the Metropolitan Opera’s revival of Giuseppe Verdi’s Luisa Miller and Saturday’s performance was expected to be carried live to more than 2,000 locations in 73 countries as part of the “Met Live in HD” series.

The Met’s production of Luisa Miller marks Beczała’s first onstage collaboration with Domingo, the acclaimed Spanish singer and conductor who takes on the baritone role of Miller, the father of the title character.

Soprano Sonya Yoncheva sings the title role.

The production's first performance on March 29 was met with a standing ovation.

In an interview prior to the work's revival by the Met, Domingo said: “I have been a great admirer of Piotr Beczała from the very beginning, especially after I conducted him in Verdi’s Requiem in Poland after the death of Pope John Paul II [in 2005]. In every opera that I’ve seen him, he has been really fantastic—the easiness of his voice, the beauty of the sound.”

The 52-year-old Pole has sung a wide range of roles at the Met in recent years, including in Donizetti’s Lucia of Lammermoor, Verdi’s Rigoletto, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Dvorak’s Rusalka. Next season Beczała is to star as Maurizio in a production of Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur.

Earlier this week, Beczała picked up the International Opera Award for best male singer at the London Coliseum.
