The Polish president on Friday named ten Polish heritage sites as Monuments to History.

The title is given to sites of significant historic, architectural, artistic or scientific value.

Ninety-one sites have been listed as Monuments to History since 1994, and President Andrzej Duda said he would like to take the number to at least 100 to mark the centenary of Poland's independence in 2018.
Among sites named Monuments to History were tourist hotspots and sacred places such as a church in Święta Lipka and a castle in Lindzbark Warmiński, both in northern Poland.
Other sites on the list include the iconic city of Kraków, the ancient settlement of Biskupin, a famous church in Częstochowa and old salt mines in Wieliczka. (vb)
