Polish abstract art on show in Czech Republic

Polish abstract art is on show at the Olomouc Museum of Art in the Czech Republic's east, in an exhibition marking a centenary of Poland's independence.

Entitled Abstraction.PL, the exhibition showcases 62 Polish artists and works dating from the 1940s to the 1990s.
It shows a range of both emotional and geometrical currents in abstract art as well as their derivatives.
Many of the exhibits were loaned from private collectors Renata and Grzegorz Król of Warsaw and Grażyna and Jacek Łozowski of Wrocław, southwestern Poland, while others belong to the National Museum in Warsaw, the Museum of Art in the central city of Łódź and the iconic Zachęta National Gallery of Art.
Abstraction.PL remains open until August 19.
The Olomouc Museum of Art partnered with the Polish Institute in Prague and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw to bring together the exhibition, which is part of a Polish international cultural programme to mark 100 years of Polish independence.
Poland will celebrate its independence on 11 November 2018, 100 years after the signing of the armistice that ended the First World War on 11 November 1918 which led to Poland returning to the map of Europe after more than 100 years of partitions and foreign rule. (vb)
