Polish music to play in Europe’s top concert halls

Polish music will be performed in some of the largest concert halls in Europe under a new initiative unveiled by a cultural institute in Warsaw on Monday.

Dozens of events including concerts, premieres of works by Polish composers, and ballet and opera co-productions, in addition to a host of interactive projects, will be held in various countries this year as part of the Polska Music 2018 initiative announced by the Warsaw-based Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
According to the institute’s deputy director, Ewa Bogusz-Moore, the plan, which comes as Poland is this year celebrating the centennial of regaining independence, is designed to show how the country's intricate history has impacted its music and culture today.
The Polska Music 2018 drive combines the past with the present and aims to show that the kind of creativity and yearning for freedom that the Polish people had in them when their country recovered sovereignty in 1918 is still a defining feature of the national psyche, Bogusz-Moore said, as cited by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
