More Poles attending cultural events: stats office

More people went to cinemas, visited museums and attended other cultural events in Poland last year than in 2016, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) has reported.

More than 2 million cinema screenings were held nationwide last year, attracting a total audience of nearly 57 million, 9.4 percent more than in 2016, the statistics office’s Karolina Dawidziuk told public broadcaster Polish Radio.

Attendance at museums, meanwhile, totaled 37.5 million in 2017, an increase of 3.2 percent from a year earlier, according to Dawidziuk.

Statistics also show that almost 7,000 mass cultural events were organised in Poland last year, drawing a total audience of over 26 million, 7.2 percent more than in 2016, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Meanwhile, the number of visitors to theatres and music institutions decreased by 9 percent to 13 million, according to IAR.
