The initiative provides free medical and dietary advice for those wanting to lose weight, in addition to psychological assistance and guidance from exercise instructors, according to reports.

Cooking workshops are also available to teach participants how to make healthy meals and plan a well-balanced diet.

The health drive targets residents aged 18 to 67 and with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and over, Poland's PAP news agency has reported.

"Obesity is a lifestyle disease, and excess weight leads to health problems," the city's deputy mayor, Jędrzej Solarski, said, as quoted by PAP.

The programme is being carried out with the support of Poland’s health ministry, the news agency said.

Only one in three Poles eat food that is good for them, according to a report by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
