Audiences will be able to hear pieces played by ensembles from Poland and abroad during the event, which is being held for the 40th time.

Artistic director Marcin Szelest said that this year’s festival coincides with the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence.

“Hence it will be particularly focused on Polish music or music referring to Polish culture," Szelest added.

The festival, which will include six premiere concerts, runs until Sunday.

Poland regained independence on November 11, 1918, the day World War I ended, after 123 years of partition by Russia, Austria and Prussia.
