Int’l Chopin Competition on Historical Instruments enters 2nd round

Fifteen pianists have qualified for the second round of the First International Chopin Competition on Historical Instruments in Warsaw.

The group is made up of eight Poles, two Japanese and pianists from Russia, the United States, France, Ukraine and Romania.

Second-round auditions start on Saturday and last three days.

The participants have at their disposal five pianos, both instruments dating from mid-19th century and replicas of period instruments.

In the last round, six finalists will are accompanied by the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century under Polish conductor Grzegorz Nowak.

The prizewinners will be announced on September 13. The winner of the competition will receive EUR 15,000 in prize money.

The event is a new project by the National Chopin Institute in Warsaw.
