The Poles beat Brazil 3-0 in the final in Turin, Italy on Sunday, taking their third world championship gold after wins in 2014 in Poland and in 1974 in Mexico.

A crowd of fans on Monday greeted the team at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport with chants of “Thank you, thank you” and intoning the Polish national anthem.

Sports Minister Witold Bańka praised the team at a news conference, thanking it for "proudly representing our national colours" and for "fighting for victory in each match."

The players were in the evening scheduled to meet Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and they were also expected to meet President Andrzej Duda on Tuesday.
